Psalm 34:14 – Depart from evil, and do good; Seek peace, and pursue it.
If you desire Comfort here and Eternal Happiness hereafter, learn to fear the Lord. Man's life on earth consists of but a few days, and most of those are full of trouble. Seek Peace, pursue it and be willing to deny ourselves a great deal for the sake of Peace. Whatever troubles may befall the Righteous they can’t hurt their Soul. No man is more miserable or unhappy then one who forsakes God. The opposite of a Peacemaker is a troublemaker. Those that promote Peace reflect the true character of their Heavenly Father. All who have been born again have been given new hearts that they may be renewed in the attitudes of their minds, putting off the old man, which is corrupted by deceitful desires and putting on the new self created to be like God in Righteousness and Holiness. We are at Peace with God and desire to live in Peace with all men. This enables us to be ambassadors of God’s message in a troubled world. Christ reminds us, blessed are they, which are persecuted for Righteousness’ sake.
Romans 12:18 – If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
We live in a world where many are not conscious of any being above them, or of any existence hereafter. If it be possible we must seek Peace. We must cultivate Peace with everyone as much as possible to preserve your own Peace. When a man's anger is strong, let it pass off. If our enemies are not melted by kindness, we are not to seek vengeance. “Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord.” Doing good to one’s enemy may bring about their repentance. Peacemaking involves removing hatred and wrath based on Truth and Righteousness.
Hebrews 12:14 – Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.
Without Peace and Holiness no one will see the Lord. Faith enables one to follow Peace and Holiness. Peace and Holiness go together; there can be no Peace without Holiness. Falling away from Christ is the fruit of preferring the delights of the flesh, to the blessing of God, and the Heavenly Inheritance, as Esau did. The self Righteous desire the blessing, yet despise the means whereby the blessing is to be gained.
Proverbs 12:20 – Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: But to the counsellers of peace is joy.
A foolish man is quick to angry and hasty to express it. Hateful words, like a sword, separate those that have been dear to each other. If Truth be spoken, it will hold its ground. Seek Truth; not only in words but in action. Those who consult the Peace and Happiness of others have Joy in their own minds. A good word from God, applied by faith, makes the heart glad. Who could ask for more? The Righteous are rich; though not in worldly goods, but in the Graces and Comforts yet to come. The way of the Righteous is straight; it is the only way of Righteousness. Therefore we are to love both Truth and Peace.
Zech 8:16 – These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God”. Put away lying, and speak peace with one’s neighbor. Live in Peace and the Love of God and Peace will be with you. Promote Peace: not discord. Cultivate Peace with everyone if at all possible. Let not our conduct betray the high moral standards of the Gospel. Discord can’t produce Peace.
Matthew 5:44 – But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.
We must go the extra step, embrace our enemies and conform ourselves to the example of our Heavenly Father. God as the Author of Peace desires to be at Peace with us. He desires that all may partake of the benefits which Christ purchased for us. Those who quietly submit to God, bear insult and return a soft word shall keep possession of their Souls. The Righteous shall be called His children, and inherit His Kingdom. My Peace I leave with you. “Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.”
