Micah 5:2 – But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
“Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet.” This is, perhaps, the single most important prophesy in the Old Testament. It was so ordered that Christ should partake of our nature, yet He would be pure from sin. It was universally known that Bethlehem would be the Messiah’s Birthplace. He was to be called Jesus, a Saviour. Christ came to Save His people, not in their sins, but from their sins and Redeem them from among men, to Himself. Some understood not the Spiritual nature of the Messiah's Kingdom. A man may be persuaded of many Truths and yet hate them because they interfere with his ambition or sinful indulgences. Such a belief will make him uneasy and more resolved to oppose the Truth.
Isaiah 9:6 – For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
This Child, born for the benefit of all sinners, from the beginning to the end of the world; called Wonderful, for He is both God and man. He is God, the Mighty One. He is God, one with the Father: the Prince of Peace. Many have great reasoning, but don’t reason right.
John 7:42 – Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
“This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.” ever had any man spoke with such Wisdom, Power, Grace, such convincing clearness wherewith Christ spoke. He came by the Word of His Gospel, to bring light to those that sat in the dark
Matthew 2:15-16 – And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
Persecution against Christ and His Kingdom began before He was even born! Look to the circumstances under which the Son of God entered into this lower world. They should have respected Him the more because He was one of them: instead they despised him. Egypt had been a house of bondage to Israel; yet it was a place of refuge for the Holy Child.
Luke 7:16 – And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
The Gospel call to all is: Arise from the dead. Have you Grace from Christ? Then show it. How concerned are you for your Soul? This is the ruin of multitudes; they are not seriously concerned for their Souls. Christ gives us Spiritual life. The blessing of the Messiah was foretold in the Old Testament.
John 6:14 – Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
The Jews expected the Messiah to come into the world as a great Prophet. Some acknowledge Christ as that Prophet but turn a deaf ear and may never come to the knowledge of the Truth. The Pharisees expected a Messiah, but couldn’t bear to think that this Jesus should be He, because they expected a Messiah in outward pomp and splendor. He was born a poor man and He died a poor man.
People draw false notions from the Scriptures, because they overlook the prophecies. Some are shaped by the Word while others are hardened; some receive the light, and others shut their eyes. They find fault with one another's reasoning yet won’t yield to the Truth. Let us strive to be among those who sit with Him upon His Throne, even as He has overcome and is sitting on His Father's Throne, at God's right hand for evermore. Christ is King of kings, and Lord of lords. His name is "The Word of God;" only this we know: the Word was God was manifested in the flesh. The way of sin is a crooked way; but the path must be made straight. Make way for Christ in your Soul.
