And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, Which shall stand for an ensign of the people: To it shall the Gentiles seek: And his rest shall be glorious.
Song of Solomon 6:9
My dove, my undefiled is but one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that bare her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her; yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her.
GOLDEN TEXT: Luke 12:10 – And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth again the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
Definition of Blasphemy -- Any remark or action showing lack of reverence or respect. An act or statement deliberately mocking God.
1 John 5:16 – If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
This passage clearly shows us that there are some sins for which one cannot be pardoned. A sin not unto death is one which is pardonable while a sin unto death is one for which there is no forgiveness.
Matthew 12:31-32—Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
One can blasphemy against God or Christ and be forgiven but it is a very serious matter to be guilty of blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. It is the ultimate sin that by its very nature puts a person beyond the reach of salvation.
All sin is serious but since the Holy Ghost is a person He can be sinned against. It is an extremely serious matter to be guilty of sinning against Him.
Mark 3:28-29 – Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme. But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.
Christ identifies blasphemy as a sin and warns us that a person that blasphemies the Holy Ghost cuts himself off from God’s saving grace from which there can be no reconciliation.
1 Timothy 1:12-13 – And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful putting me into the ministry. Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
In this passage we learn that Paul blasphemed Christ but the Lord’s grace was exceeding abundant. It produced love in him in contrast to his previous blasphemy, persecution and violence to the church. Had he blasphemed the Holy Ghost the story would have ended differently.
Hebrews 6:4-6 – For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost. And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come. If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Oh yes, you can crucify Christ today. Many are crucifying Christ every day and blaspheming the Holy Ghost at the same time. These are people who have been in the Church of God and tasted the heavenly gifts, which are the Holy Ghost and the sweet word of God. They received that heavenly gift. How do you blaspheme the Holy Ghost? Ignorant people do it all the time but ignorance is no excuse. They once had the Holy Ghost and knew the doctrine. Through their ignorance they have denounced the doctrine of the Church of God. Though ignorance they have blasphemed the Holy Ghost and crucified Christ anew.
Acts 7:51 – Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost as your fathers did, so do ye.
Conviction is revealed by the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost was sent to reproof, or point out and expose our sins. He reveals the need of redemption. He reveals the reality of redemption, which is judgment. For those that continually resist the Holy Ghost it is possible to wear off conviction.
Don’t let your wife, husband, son or daughter lead you a stray. What is your standard? What do you stand for? Through ignorance they will get your soul. Once they get it you and you alone will have to pay the price. Once you blasphemy against the Holy Ghost it is too late.
